A new (October 13, 2011) partnership of educational and learning management apps produced in partnership with Google and Pearsons. OpenClass, a free learning management system will combine standard course management tools with advanced social networking and community building, as well as allowing open ‘architecture’ allowing instructors to import any material or content frome books, YouTube videos, etc. It will launch through Google Apps for Education, combining into service with email, calendars, and document sharing service serving the education sector. It aims to fill the growing gap of institutions searching for openness and less defined learning management systems, to systems that are customizable, develop-able, and integrate social media with education.
Unlike Blackboard and Moodle, OpenClass allows communication and sharing between students regardless of section or class – other LMS systems only allow students enrolled in the same section to communicate or form online groups/shares and discussions.
